Warwick & Moscow Universities Collaborate

Lomonosov Moscow State UniversityIt is widely recognised that international collaboration between universities can play a crucial role in the development of world-class academic research, and the same is true of benchmarking best practice for the commercialisation of the resultant technologies. Warwick Ventures and representatives from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), first began working together last year when a delegation of Russian visitors came over in December. So successful have their subsequent visits been, and that of Warwick Ventures' return trip to Moscow, that the level of co-operation has escalated to high-level talks between the Universities' respective Deans.

The agreement between The University of Warwick and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), emerged from a joint EU TEMPUS project devoted to the development of the technology transfer process in Moscow State University. Two visits of professorial staff and top-level managers from MSU to the University of Warwick within the context of the EU TEMPUS programme have been co-ordinated by Warwick Ventures, and are based largely on the sucessful Medici programme.

Medici family welcomes new Fellows
This year's wave of Medici Fellows, Chris Dowson, Douglas Macklam, Emily Paremain, Joita Dey, Raquel Esteves de Matos, and Sam Hardy, joined Warwick Ventures on the 1st September. New Programme Manager, Dr. Sanjeev Gogna, says "This is an important time for the Medici Programme. After a very successful inaugural year we are looking to build on our successes. This is the last year of the programme - in its current guise, at least - and the anticipated success of this year will prove important for the future of the programme as a whole. Not only are there projects from last year to maintain, but the fellows are expected to take the Medici programme to the Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, and Computer Science departments. This is a huge leap for us. Hitherto, we had been busy enough just auditing the Biology Department." We welcome the Fellows to the department and wish them all the best during their time here.

Dr. Sanjeev Gogna secures a Sainsbury Management scholarship from RAENG
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Sanjeev Gogna on his achievement in securing a prestigious scholarship from the Royal Academy of Engineering & Life Sciences, to undertake an Executive MBA at Warwick Business School. As one of only four Scholarships available nationally from the RAENG, Dr. Gogna's aspirations are that he can strengthen the existing ties between these two highly renowned University departments and engender a higher level of cooperation for the benefit of both departments. We wish him all the best with his studies.

EFS are recruiting
The Enterprise Fellowship Scheme (EFS), is recruiting for new Fellows. The scheme is designed to support alumni, staff and students of the universities of Central England, Coventry, Keele, Staffordshire, Warwick and Wolverhampton to explore a business idea and develop it into a commercial reality. If you are entrepreneurial, ambitious, and determined to see your ideas come to fruition then click here for an application form. The EFS team is waiting to hearing from you.

Warwick Ventures expands into new offices

What with the new Medici Fellows and the new intake of EFS fellows on board, and the launch of Invored, Warwick Ventures is positively heaving with people at the moment. We have had no other option but to move Connect Midlands and EFS across the corridor to unit 26. There the EFS fellows can enjoy their new hot-desking facilities and a brand new kitchen - complete with espresso machine. Nice!

    1. Pick Up & Place Robot.

This patented design for a highly rigid, simple, accurate and fast moving robot platform which operates across a wide 2 dimensional area is showing great promise and is now looking to be developed into specific commercial applications.

A prototype will soon be received into the University of Warwick for further development by Prof Tian and Prof Chetwynd, of the Department of Engineering. The robot is currently in use in a battery manufacturing facility in China and has been featured on Chinese National Television.

If you are keen to get involved with this very young company at this important stage in their development please contact Dr. Mark Wareing at our offices.
